Physical Demand Analysis

Additional Information

A physical demands analysis, or PDA, is often completed as part of a fitness for duty program which ensures that staff are:

  • capable of completing the physical requirements of the job
  • able to safely return to the job demands if they experience an injury

A PDA focuses on a job title, rather than an individual's abilities, and identifies the physical demands of that job. The occupational therapist will break down the components of a work task and measure the various requirements, focusing on the maximum physical demands required.

The cognitive demands of the job may also be considered and ergonomic recommendations may be provided upon request.
